Intern Program

Main content start

Hi all! BLACKstage is BACK and we’re excited to welcome a cohort of interns into the company for our reinaugural season! Our intern program is designed to help students of all years gain theater making experience by providing opportunities to work on BLACKstage shows and workshops. We also hope that by the end of your internship, you will feel confident enough to apply for future leadership roles.

Please keep reading for more information about the time commitment, expectations, and program structure.

Please feel free to reach out to our Artistic Director, Aiyanna (aiyanna@stanford.edu), with any questions or concerns!

About the program

The intern program combines play/musical production, workshop planning, and community building into a fun, educational, year-long theater experience!

Committee interns join and support a specific BLACKstage committee and Chair, while General interns have the flexibility to support different committees and officers during the year. You can read more about the committees later in this guide.

Expectations

A BLACKstage intern is expected to:

  1. Participate in at least one BLACKstage production as a performer, musician, head or assistant staff, stage crew, or technical crew
  2. Plan or assist in planning one BLACKstage workshop per quarter. Workshops can be low-key, one time events with topics such as: auditioning, make-up, design, lighting, etc.
  3. Support their committee (for committee interns) or the company (for general interns) on tasks and projects as needed throughout the season
  4. Attend intern events and relevant Company Leadership meetings
